Golden Milk

This is a hot, soothing, aromatic, delicious, winter drink flavored with turmeric. The recipe is based on one from the Minimalist Baker, a terrific website that specializes in delicious, uncomplicated recipes.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk or half almond milk and half light coconut milk.
  • 1/2-3/4 tsp ground turmeric or a one-inch piece of turmeric, unpeeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger, or ½-inch piece of gingerroot, unpeeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 whole cinnamon stick or 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp coconut oil
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper or 1 tsp whole black peppercorns
  • 1-3 tsp honey or maple syrup (optional)

Preparation

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan.
  2. Whisk to combine and heat over medium heat until hot but not boiling – about 4 minutes – whisking frequently.
  3. Strain into mugs or bowls.
  4. Curl up on your couch and enjoy

Note:

If you find the golden milk to be too rich or thick for you, add a little hot water and stir.
